Copy Editing and Proofreading

Copy editing begins as basic revision. It differs from proofreading in that it checks for grammar, spelling, and style, strength of transitions, jargon, and wordiness. Heavier copy edits may even include rewrites.

Our basic copy editing rates begin at $35 per hour for 6 manuscript pages per hour. Rates may be adjusted based on the particulars of the project.

When you’ve already written the story you want to tell and have no interest in our thoughts on narrative development or revisions, proofreading is the way to go. In essence, you’re looking for an intense check to ensure that the grammar is tight and spell check didn’t spite you.

Proofreading rates begin at $32.50 per hour for 11 manuscript pages per hour. Rates may be adjusted based on the particulars of the project.

Transcription and Voice Over Work

Keen Composition is at the ready to get the greatest story you ever told from the tape onto paper. We can transcribe your podcast episode, book, or other audio record.

Transcription rates vary, but are typically $2.50-$4 per audio minute. This depends on several factors, including audio quality.

Keen Composition is also available for voice over work of all types, but specializes in narration, informational audio, and book recordings in the following genres: children’s fiction and nonfiction, young adult fiction and nonfiction, general adult fiction, self-help, and memoir. Voice over rates follow the suggested project guidelines of the Association for Independents in Radio.

Grant Writing and Fact Checking

Keen Composition helps nonprofits tell their stories of impact. Every founder or executive director knows why their organization should exist; and when standing in front of you, there’s no shortage of evidence they can share on why their programs should be funded. Writing the evidence is a whole different story.
